Larkspur Shawl Crochet Pattern

Inside – The Larkspur Shawl Crochet Pattern is an easy project for beginner crocheters to grow their crochet skills. Keep reading to discover why I designed this shawl, and where you can find it… psst, in the Crochet Capsule’s Garden Collection.

As a child I delighted in my mother’s garden. Her work, and creativity, gave me a lovely little wilderness to explore at home. With dirt tucked under my nails, I discovered bugs, worms, and every part of a flower by pulling it apart piece by piece. Each day I’d fill my plastic buckets with flowers, always assuming they’d grow back overnight, to take back to my laboratory, aka the sandbox.

After all those days spent in the backyard, there are a few plants that stand out in my memory. Drying okra stalks in the vegetable bed, the vast rose collection along the fence, and lumbering tomatoes staking claim in their long-held reign. But, it’s the larkspur that I eagerly awaited for as the winter days began to thaw.

Aside from dandelions, larkspur is my favorite childhood flower from my mother’s garden. The colors – ranging from violet, deep blue, and light pink – mesmerized me. Among their towers, I felt seen and hidden at the same time. I’ll never forget how my mother grew a wonderland for her young daughter to explore.

Design for the Larkspur Shawl Crochet Pattern

The Larkspur Shawl is meant for crochet beginners who are ready to flex their crochet skills. Yes, this pattern uses easy crochet stitches – like the Chain, Single Crochet, and Double Crochet. But it also uses the Sprig Stitch – an advanced beginner crochet stitch.

Meet the Sprig Stitch

Broken down, the Sprig Stitch is simply 2 Single Crochets, 1 Chain, and 2 more Single Crochets all worked in the same chain space. Once you get through the first few rows, the stitch starts to define itself in the little peaks the Sprig Stitch is known for.

Yarn + Substitutes

A huge thank you to WeCrochet for providing the yarn for this crochet pattern!

The Larkspur Shawl Crochet Pattern uses the Heatherly Sport from WeCrochet. I picked the color Cabana because when I look at it, I felt cool blue pool water tickling my toes. If this sky blue doesn’t put you in the summer mood, then I’m not sure if there’s any hope for you.

Another reason the Crochet Capsule chose Heatherly Sport (and Worsted), is because of the stunning color palette. WeCrochet curated a lovely bunch of colors, ripe for picking with this yarn line! You’d be hard pressed to find a color you don’t love in the Heatherly Yarn Line.

Bonus – working with this yarn is as good as it looks. The acrylic + merino wool blend gives it a soft, smooth feel with the ease of washing it. No worries about causing felting or shrinking with this yarn!
