About this time each year, there is a debate happening in my house. The big question – what kind of Halloween do we decorate for?
👻 A spooky, cute Halloween with ghosts and ghouls?
🧟♀️ A creepy, crawly Halloween with mummies and monsters?
👹 A scary, spine-chilling Halloween with red-eyed goblins out to eat little children?
My son wants to turn our cozy, comforting home into the best haunted house on the street. While my daughter laments that she’ll be “too scared” and have nightmares if we make it ultra scary. So, I am the tie breaker. And therefore, we go with a mild, cute/spooky theme.
The last thing I want is for my daughter to lose sleep over Halloween decorations. …because I’ll be losing sleep, too.
However, there is one decoration that I’ll allow any theme – the jack o lantern carving. My son makes the scariest jack o lantern that he can imagine! My daughter still gets a little worried, but she’s learning that it’s just a pumpkin that we carved as a family. Plus, it looks less scary next to her super cute, smiling jack o lantern!
The Grin Reaper is designed for my son – who loves a scary Halloween. 🎃 Enjoy!
Spooky Season Mosaic Blanket CAL (crochet along)

It is a crochet technique that works on the Right Side of the fabric, and uses alternating Front Loop / Back Loop stitches to create an image. All you need to know is how to Single Crochet and Double Crochet before starting this crochet pattern.

- Experience Level – Advanced Beginner
- You will need to know how to Single Crochet, Double Crochet, and work in the back (or front) loop before starting this pattern. Basic overlay mosaic technique knowledge is needed to begin this pattern.
- CH 1 does not count as a stitch.
- Foundation SC may be used as a substitute for the foundation chain and Row 1.
- Written Instructions – Repeat the instructions inside the [ … ] as many times according to your size.
- Blanket Sizes and corresponding stitch counts will be written as follows : Lapghan (Throw, XL Throw).

Rules of Overlay Mosaic Crochet
- Color Changes – Each row is crocheted with a single color (Color A, B, C or D).
- Cut yarn after each row – Fasten off yarn after each row, and do not crochet over (or weave in) the ends. An envelope border will be used to contain the yarn ends,
- Border Stitches – Each row begins and ends with a Center Single Crochet. This stitch is made under BOTH top loops. Click here for a photo tutorial.

- BLO SC – Every Single Crochet (besides the border stitches) is made in the back loop only.
- FLO DC – Every Double Crochet will go in the front loop of the 2nd row from the one you’re working in. So, skip the row you normally work in, and crochet into the Front Loop of the next row below.
- Turning the work – Do not turn your work. Always crochet from the Right to Left (right handed crocheters) or Left to Right (left handed crocheters).

BLOsc – Back Loop Only Single Crochet
Insert hook in the back loop (the loop furthest away from you) of the top two loops to create a stitch.

Insert hook in the front loop (the loop closest to you) of the top two loops to create a stitch.
