Inspiration

The day isn’t complete without an afternoon tea. This little slice of time each day to sit, relax and recharge happens nearly every day for me. I grab a book, or a current project, and enjoy some solitude on the porch… until one of the kids finds me! As the weather warms up, the hot afternoon tea turns into afternoon ICED tea, and I ditch the cozy blanket for a tank top and fan. Sipping on black iced day doesn’t get much better on a hot, humid day.

Also, summertime is hands down my favorite season. The sun wraps you in a blanket of warmth, and cool pools invite you to get more than your toes wet. Shorts, tank tops, and sandals become the only wardrobe you need. Weekends are meant for mini getaways to the beach, or spill over into week-long camping trips. You could say that I can’t get enough of summer, and squeezing every drop of juice from that lemon is a goal of mine each year.

Therefore, between the afternoon tea, and sweet summertime activities, the Sippin’ on Summer Top was created. This crochet tank top is as delicious as sippin’ on sweet iced day in the middle of July. It’ll keep you cool, and allow the breeze to reach your skin, while resting soft and light. A must-have crochet top to your wardrobe this summer!

Design for the Sippin’ On Summer Crochet Top

This crochet tank top will help you beat the heat this summer with it’s simple, and breathable design. It features the Moss Stitch (a great stitch for beginners!) and a Scalloped edge for a bit of whimsy. The body is crocheted in the round, and from the bottom up. Each strap is crocheted in four separate parts onto the body, and sewed together at the top. This keeps the Moss Stitch in the same direction in the front and back.

Moss Stitch

The Sippin’ On Summer Tank crochets into a delicate, woven fabric with incredible drape. This is all due to the Moss Stitch! This stitch is a simple combination of Single Crochet and Chain. If you know how to do both, then you will master this crochet technique.

V Neckline

This crochet tank top features a V Neckline not only in the front, but in the back, too! It’s one of the defining characteristics of the Sippin’ On Summer Tank, and provides an elegant touch.

Scallop Edge

This summer tank top wouldn’t be a High Desert Yarn design without a little flair, right!? Adding touches of elegance or texture in my designs is a must. Although, sometimes they are a bit more hidden – like this edging. Discovering them is like searching for buried treasure! Just because we want to live a life outside, doesn’t mean we sacrifice quality or FUN clothes to wear.

Finished Sizes

The Sippin’ On Summer Tank Top is designed to fit loose at the bottom, and taper to a snug fit around the bust, and through the straps. The bottom has 2″ of positive ease in the hips until the body begins to decrease. Around the bust, and through the straps, this tank top has zero ease to fit snuggly. The length of this tank top will rest between the waist and hips depending on your torso length. Add length to the body by repeating Round 34 before the decreases start. Refer to this chart to determine your size, and approximate yarn needed. All measurements are for the final garment, not actual body size.

SC3tog – Single Crochet 3 together (decreasing SC)
This stitch is used to decrease around the body. However, it is worked a little differently in this pattern. You place a SC in the CH SP before, and in the CH SP after a SC ST. The SC3tog is worked over 3 STS, but you only place your hook in the 2 CH SPs, and not in the SC ST. A photo tutorial is included in the printable PDF pattern available in my Etsy and Ravelry Shops.
