This is an advanced beginner crochet pattern for Cliffrose Headband Bulky Edition — a chunky ear warmer based off of the original Cliffrose Headband. It is simple one skein project to make as a gift, or for yourself. Keep reading to learn about the inspiration and design, and where to find this crochet pattern.
Inspiration + Design
The Cliffrose Headband started off my design journey two years ago. You can read all about the original pattern here. This original pattern uses a worsted weight yarn, and while it was in the design process I knew that it would make a beautiful bulky headband. Finally, the day is here to announce the Cliffrose Headband Bulky Edition!
What’s truly wonderful about using a super bulky (category 6) yarn is the definition of the Star Stitch, and the extra bubbly Berry Stitch. Both stitches acquired a new character with the bulky yarn. If you’re new to these stitches, the PDF pattern includes a photo tutorial for both.
This headband is crocheted in rows, and sewed together at the very end. The PDF pattern includes a photo tutorial, and a link to a video tutorial on how to finish off the headband.
Yarn + Substitutes
The Cliffrose Headband Bulky Edition uses Yarn Bee Effortless Super Bulky from Hobby Lobby. It is a super bulky (category 6) yarn. However, a great substitute would be the Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick–another easily accessible super bulky yarn!
Whenever you’re changing yarns, be sure to work up the gauge so make sure it’ll fit correctly!
Finished Size + Fit
This headband is designed to have a snug fit (2″ of negative ease). Below are the measurements for the head circumference, not the circumference for the finished headband. For the best fit, take a head measurement before starting this pattern to determine the correct size.
Adult Small — 21″
Adult Large — 24″
