The Dandelion Beanie is inspired by my daughter, Emma. My feisty little girl who loves wildflowers and the outdoors. Confession : she’s barely 11 months old when this pattern releases. However, she is surrounded with wildflowers, cacti, horses, and the outdoors. Therefore, this beanie is chock full of fun, whimsical, and diverse stitches to create a one-of-a-kind hat suitable for a unique little girl.
Inspiration from 2019
Currently, I’m writing this section in remembrance of a time when my little girl was a baby. Back then, I had more say over what surrounded my daughter. Reason why I decorated her room with flowers and wild (stuffed) animals. I took her on as many hikes as we could muster togerher.. until flat out refused to hike with me.
Four years later (today in 2024), my sweet feisty girl loves all things pink, twirly dresses, and ballet. She prefers to help in the garden, pick her own bouquet of flowers, rather than spend a few hours walking in the forest. Emma shows me what a different kind of wild looks like. One a bit more homegrown than primitive. The Dandelion Beanie still is the perfect winter hat for her.
Note on the Wear + Fit
Emma and I proudly wear our Dandelion Crochet Beanies every winter. However, these hat stretched over time from wearing, washing, and drying. The plus side – the Toddle Size grew with Emma. The downside – the adult size is now too big for my head. Since the design of this beanie, I’ve grown better at properly sizing hats, headbands and garments. So, what does this mean for you, the crocheter?
- Please check your head circumference and make a gauge swatch prior to starting this crochet pattern.
- You made need to size down in the crochet pattern OR in your hook size.
- The toddler and child sizes will grow overtime with the person. The adult size, may not last as long.
Consider resizing this hat on the very long list of remakes for me. 😅

- Yarn – Loops & Threads Impeccable, worsted weight #4 (277yds/253m per 4.5oz/127.5g skein)
— 1 skein of Aran (MC)
— 1 skein of Soft Rose (CC) - Crochet Hook I/9 (5.50mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle

Gauge + Finished Size
13 hdc sts x 9.5 rows = 4 inch square
Check your gauge before starting this hat to ensure the finished measurements are correct. If you need to, change your hook size to attain the correct gauge.

Width — 11.5 inches
Circumference — 23 inches
